  General Notes:

"A branch of the Wauchope family presumably left the Borders region, headed north, and became possessed of the lands of Tulimacboythne (Tullibole, that is now Kilduthie) in Kincardineshire, and Culter and Ardboik (Arbeck) in Aberdeenshire. These lands were confirmed by Alexander II to Robert Wauchop, son of Allan Wauchop, in 1247. Alan de Walchop was Keeper of Aboyne Castle and Chamberlain to the Earl of Aboyne in 1291 and to
Donald, Earl of Mar, in 1293."

from A Brief Historical Sketch

"Regarding the English garrison at Aboyne, it is recorded that on the 5th September 1291, Richard de Swethope granted a receipt to Andrew de Brenach, clerk, on behalf of Sir Donald, Earl of Mar, for 20 merks sterling as the ferme of the lands of Aboyne, dated at 'Tullachus occleth.' The Earl of Mar was Edward's chamberlain, and there is a receipt for £13 6s. 8d. in his favour granted to Gilbert, the clerk, and William, called Bissope, for payment of the garrison of Aboyne for forty days; dated at Aboyne on Friday 9th November 1291. About a month later there is another receipt by Swethope for forty merks of his wages to Alan de Walchop, chamberlain to the Earl of Mar."

Note: There may have been two Allan Wauchops: a father and son. The late dates of 1291 and 1293 suggest there may have been a father, Allan, who had sons, Allan and Robert, the father being born near the start of the 13th century. Or, Robert may have had a son, Allan. It is difficult, though not impossible, to see how the father of Robert was Chamberlain to Mar in 1293.
