In Gordons of Cairnfield, by J. M. Bulloch, Robert Gordon, burgess of Elgin, is stated, according to the Balbithan MS, to have had a daughter who married "Innes of Drainie". Bulloch then quotes a 1648 document naming

"Issobell Gordone, relict of umqll. Johne Innes, brother german to umqll. Robert Innes of Dranie, and now spous to Alexander Hay of Knockandie,"

which makes it clear that Robert Gordon's daughter did not marry James Innes, 5th of Drainie, but rather his son John, brother of Robert Innes, 6th of Drainie.

In any case, apart from the clear evidence of the document quoted above, the dates are against the likelihood of the marriage to the 5th laird.
