Son of Robert Huntly, Xeres, Spain (d. 1803) and Letitia Rudyerd; which Robert was the son of Cosmo, Jamaica, who was a son of James, of Beldorney; bap. 1797, Oct. 6, at St. Anne's, Kew Green, Surrey; educated at Hall Place, Kent, and Woodford Wells, Essex; nominated for H.E.I.C.S. by William Astell on recommendation of C. Richardson in 1819, his widowed mother then living in Brunswick Square, London; m., 1831, Nov. 14, at Laggan, Helen Macdonald (d. 1863) and had Henry, b. there, 1832, Oct. 27 (who d. unm. 1870, Oct. 13, at Bruges). Note: The woman who signed Robert's death certificate, Letitia Ann Rudyerd Gordon, was his daughter by his third wife, Hannah Bradshaw. Robert H. Gordon had several children but many died young. He had children from three relationships. He had one sibling, a sister; she was born the same year as her father's death. She died in York and left three children, twin girls and a son. None of them married and there was no issue.

The 1861 census for Askern in Yorkshire, England, recorded Robert H. Gordon living there with his wife Ann and their three sons, John, George and Charles and their daughter, Letitia. Robert was recorded as 63 years of age and had been born in Kew, Surrey. He was a 'Retired Lieutenant in the East India Service' and was noted as 'Blind'. 1 2 3


Robert married Helen MACDONALD on 14 November 1831 in Laggan, Inverness, Scotland. (Helen MACDONALD was born about 1800 and died in 1863.)


Robert next married Mary SHAW. (Mary SHAW was born about 1810 and died in 1844 4.). The cause of her death was childbearing.
