PARENTAGE

Lands and Lairds of Larbert and Dunipace Parishes in its Genealogical Chart of the Livingstones of Dunipace that the first wife of David Barclay of Mathers was Elizabeth, daughter of John Livingstone 6th of Dunipace and his wife Annabella Young. The source noted is Playfair's Baronetage.

A History of the Barclay Family states only that she was the daughter of "Sir John Livingstone of Dunipace".

Since David Barclay her husband was born in or about 1580, and died in 1660,and since she was his first wife, it is not feasible that Elizabeth's father was married in 1634, or thereabouts, as is stated of the sixth laird in the Genealogical Chart of the Livingstones of Dunipace. The fifth laird was named David. It is likely then she was David's sister, daughter of the fourth laird, Sir John. 1 2

Elizabeth married David BARCLAY 11th and last of Mathers, son of Thomas BARCLAY and Catherine STRATON, in 1604.1 (David BARCLAY 11th and last of Mathers was born in 1580 1 and died in 1660 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"David Barclay was born 1580. He was the son of Thomas Barclay, who died in the lifetime of his father, and Janet Straiton, his wife. He succeeded his grandfather, George Barclay (Mathers X), in 1607, and was the last of the line to hold the family estates of the Mearns and Mathers. He was twice married, his first wife being Elizabeth Livingstone, daughter of Sir John Livingstone of Dunipace, who bore him four sons, John, Alexander, David and Robert..."

from A History of the Barclay Family

Note: David Barclay's wife is elsewhere named as Katherine.
