" ... in the year 1390 this Andrew Leslie, VIII. Dominus Ejusdem, had resigned a part of his estates to his son Norman, who had an only son David, who had gone abroad to the holy wars ; and who, having been absent for several years without having been heard of, was supposed to be dead. In consequence of the supposed death of his son David, Norman Leslie entailed the estates which his father had resigned to him on his own heirs-male, and failing them, on Sir George Leslie, whom he styles his consanguineus or cousin."
