BURNET, Thomas of Carmyle
(About 1572-Before 1620) |
BURNET, Thomas of Carmyle 2Another name for Thomas was BURNET, Thomas of Carmyle.1 User ID: A917. General Notes: "This Thomas was grandson and representative of William Burnett of Craigour, Campbell, and Tillihaikie, who fell at Pinkie in 1547, ancestor (through a younger line) of the Burnetts of Campbell, Elrick, &c. These lines of Burnetts are often alluded to as cadets of Leys, and they doubtless were so, though the compiler has failed to trace them further back than William, who fell at Pinkie. Thomas Burnet abovenamed seems to have acquired Craigmyle through his mother, heiress of a family of Craigmyle of that Ilk, who appear on record in the 15th century as holding Craigmyle directly from the Crown, though they afterwards had the Earls of Huntly interposed as superiors. In November, 1608, Thomas Burnet resigned his lands of Craigmyle, Pitmedden, and the Mill of Craigmyle into the hands of the Earl of Huntly, superior, in favour of his daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, James Burnet, on their marriage. They had sasine on the 9th of the same month, reserving the liferent of half to Thomas. Thomas married Jane MONCUR.1 (Jane MONCUR was born about 1575.) Marriage Notes: "Thomas (Burnet), of Craigmyle, who married Jane Moncur, and died before 1620, leaving issue, Elizabeth, who married James Burnett, second son of Alexander Burnett of Leys, and had issue, two daughters." |
