General Notes: "John Butter, 5th of Gormack, who is specifically styled 'brother son' to Patrick Buttar of Gormack in a Tack by Andrew, Archbishop of Dunfermline, granting to Patrick Buttar of Gormack, Janet Gordon, his spouse, John Buttar his brother-son, Alexander Reid of Straloch, Alexander Reid, his second son, and John Reid, his eldest son, the vicarage of Moulin with the mansions, glebes, kirklands etc., on 22 July 1520. He had succeeded that uncle in the lands of Gormack by 3 April 1543 when he was a member of an inquest at the retour of John Stewart, Earl of Atholl, as heir to his father John Stewart, Earl of Atholl, in extensive lands and is styled filius fratris to the deceased Patrick Buttar of Gormack in letters of regression for the lands of Grantully dated 11 September 1545." John married Beatrix GORDON, daughter of Adam GORDON Lord of Aboyne, Earl of Sutherland, jure uxoris and Elizabeth SUTHERLAND 10th Countess of Sutherland.1 (Beatrix GORDON was born about 1511.)
