Drumwhindle may have come to John Gordon 2nd of Artloch through his wife, who in turn may have inherited it from her mother, a Forbes of Tolquhon. Drumwhindle is in the parish of Ellon, and there are a number of properties and place names which incorporate it to the east and north east of Auchreddie. 8

John married Elizabeth GORDON, daughter of Sir John GORDON 3rd of Park and Cluny, Baronet and Jean FORBES.1 (Elizabeth GORDON was born about 1664.)

  Marriage Notes:

"After his (John Gordon's) first Ladys death he married Mrs Jean Forbes .... with whom he begat a Daughter Mrs Beattie married on John Gordon of Drumwhyndle now of Craibston"

from Balbithan MS

Note:

"Mrs Beattie" is "Mistress Betty" in the modern idiom. 1

John next married.
