"Pitchash is in the parish of Inveravon, on the opposite bank of the Spey from Mains of Kirdels. On May 26, 1696, William Gordon, brother to John Gordon of Edintore notes that 'grants were to have been received from Charles Gordon in Kirdels, the soume of ane hundredth and two merks half merk, Scots money, contained in a bond and obligment, granted by him as principall to John Cumming in Tarmore, Inveravon, as cautioner : and therefore I, the said William Gordon, simpliciter, discharges the said Charles Gordon,' Keith, September 2, 1696 : registered September 7, 1696. Charles shifted about, for in August 1699 he is described as 'of Auchinharroch, now of Abergeldie' (Commissary Court Books of Moray)."

"It has been stated, with no very clear proof, that he was captain and adjutant of the Scots Guards in 1688."

"Charles Gordon who, described as 'in Pitchaise,' witnessed his brother-in-law's marriage contract in 1694, signed a bond for the Earl of Aboyne insuring the peace of the country in 1700 (Allardyce's Jacobite Papers, p. 21), and he was made a Commissioner of Supply in 1704 (Acts of Parliament). He built the house of Birkhall in 1715."

Charles married Rachel GORDON 10th Lady of Abergeldie, daughter of Alexander GORDON 8th of Abergeldie and Euphemia GRAHAM, before 5 July 1698.¹ (Rachel GORDON 10th Lady of Abergeldie was born about 1667.)

Rachel succeeded her brother John in 1698. She married (before July 5, 1698) Captain Charles Gordon of the Minmore family, which was a cadet of the Knockespocks and descended from ' Jock ' Gordon of Scurdargue. Thus, though the direct male line of Gordon of Abergeldie was broken, the name was retained, for Abergeldie is one of the very few estates in Aberdeenshire which have been retained by the same family for so long a period as four centuries."
