Note:

Innes of Mathiemill states that John Gordon of Invercharrach and Elspeth Innes had an unnamed son killed at the Battle of Pinkie which took place in 1547. If it was this first son, William, who was killed, then it might explain why a second son was named William, possibly born after 1547. ^{1 2}
