Robert married Margaret FORBES, daughter of William FORBES 11th Lord Forbes and Jean CAMPBELL, about 1675.1 2 3 (Margaret FORBES was born about 1649 and died on 16 April 1677 2 3.). The cause of her death was childbirth.

"The first Lord Duffus was four times married ... He married fourthly, Margaret, eldest daughter of William, eleventh Lord Forbes, who survived him and was married, about 1675, to Robert Gordon, afterwards third Baronet of Gordonston, but died on 16 April 1677."
