Margaret married Sir John STEWART 1st Earl of Angus, son of Sir Alexander STEWART ancestor of Stewart Earls of Angus and Unknown, 24 October 1328(papal dispensation).¹ (Sir John STEWART 1st Earl of Angus was born about 1297 and died on 9 December 1331 ¹.)

"John Stewart, Earl of Angus, married, in terms of a papal dispensation of date 24 October 1328, Margaret, eldest daughter and co-heiress of Sir Alexander Abernethy, by which marriage the lordship of Abernethy in Perthshire and other lands passed into possession of the Earls of Angus. By her the Earl had one son, Thomas, who succeeded. Margaret Abernethy, Countess of Angus, lived until about 1370, surviving her son as well as her husband."

Margaret. On 11 July 1311 King Edward requested the Pope to grant a dispensation for her marriage with Roger de Moubray, they being within the forbidden degrees of consanguinity. It is not certain that this marriage ever took place. On 30 January 1324-25 she had leave to visit Scotland to treat with her friends there as to the recovery of her hereditary lands ; and on 24 October 1328 a papal dispensation was granted for her marriage to John Stewart, Earl of Angus. This marriage took place, and the Countess lived till about 1370, surviving both her husband and her son."
