"It is on record that he (George Barclay, a purported son of Anne's half-brother John) was well known to Anne, the daughter of David Barclay (Mathers XI), who was then married to Douglas of Tilliwhilly."

Anne next married David STRACHAN Minister of Fettercairn, then Bishop of Brechin, son of James STRACHAN of Monboddo and Marjorie RAMSAY, on 21 May 1649 in (Contract).3 (David STRACHAN Minister of Fettercairn, then Bishop of Brechin was born about 1585 and died before 29 December 1671 5.)

"David Strachan was twice married.... He married secondly Anna, daughter of Captain David Barclay of Mathers and sister of Captain David Barclay of Urie, a widow. The marriage contract is dated at Aberluthnot (Marykirk), the 21st May 1649 (Genealogical Account of Barclays of Urie, Lond. 1812,pp23,24)."

"Anne Barclay was three times married : .... thirdly, in 1649, to Mr. David Strachan, Minister of Fettescairne, who became later, on the restoration of Charles II, Bishop of Brechin. Her marriage contract of 1649 now the possession of the chief of the family ; in it her father, David Barclay of Mathers, and her half-brother, Colonel David, appear as consenting to the marriage, the Colonel being styled 'lawful son to David Barclay.' It is worthy of notice that neither in Anne's marriage contract nor in that of Colonel David, two years previously, is there any mention of the other brothers in the list of witnesses."
