  Marriage Notes:

"Gilbert married firstly Isabel Beaton daughter of John Beaton second laird of Creich by his wife Margaret Hay. They married at a young age probably shortly before 12 February 1550/1 on which date they had royal charters of the Hatton of Ogilvy and the Middleton of Ogilvy which his father resigned for them to hold in conjunct fee.[RMS Vol.iv.575 and 577] The Contract of marriage was agreed with John Lord Innermeath, Sir Walter Scott of Branxholm, John Beaton of Balfour and Mr Steven Beaton the brother of Isobel[Cal. Of Deeds 12 Feb 1550] A charter dated 19 October 1554 named Isabel as spouse of Gilbert and recited that the lands of Wester Foodie near Cupar were in Isabel's possession and had been in the Beaton's hands by ward for 32 years and two months since the death of William, earl of Errol. [Laing Charters 624] Isabel died young in the period about 1555 - 1556, but it seems doubtful that she was mother to any of Gilbert's childdren."
