"In March 1593, a contract was entered into between Patrick Maule, younger of Panmure, Margaret Erskine, his spouse, and Elizabeth Maule, their daughter, on the one part, and James Strachan of Carmyllie on the other part, for the marriage of the said James and Elizabeth, in the prospect of which Patrick Maule engaged to infeft her in the lands of Skethin and others in liferent, and to provide a dowry of 4000 merks (Reg. of Deeds, vol. Ixxxi.)."
