STEWART, Isabel 1User ID: W651. Isabel married Donald Earl of Mar, Regent of Scotland, son of Gratney Earl of Mar and Christian DE BRUS.1 (Donald Earl of Mar, Regent of Scotland was born about 1299 1 and died on 12 August 1332 in Battle of Dupplin Moor, Perthshire, Scotland 1.) Marriage Notes: "Earl Donald married a lady named Isabel Stewart, who has been asserted to be a daughter of Sir Alexander Stewart of Bonkyl, but nothing has been found to support this statement. She was married, secondly, before 15 September 1334, to Geoffrey Moubray, whom she divorced sometime before Easter 1336 ; and thirdly, about 1339, to William Carsewell, by whom apparently she had issue, and who survived her. She died between 15 May 1347 and 15 January 1347-48. It is possible she may have had another husband named Baliol, as a Thomas Baliol in 1368, with consent of his brother Thomas, Earl of Mar, resigned part of Cavers in the hands of the Earl of Douglas. He is also styled the Earl of Mar's brother in two other charters dated in 1364 and 1365." |
