  Marriage Notes:

"(514) Sir James Hamilton of Preston and Fingalton. Married Agnes Hamilton, of Cadzow, and had : -

(515) Sir Robert Hamilton of Preston and Fingalton, died 1489."

from Heraldry of the Hamiltons

".... in December 1438, his (Sir John Hamilton's) son, Sir James of Fingalton, appears as knight in the testing clause of a charter, by Sir George Seton of Seton, in favour of his kinsman, Robert Seton.

He married Agnes, daughter of Sir James Hamilton of Cadyow, and sister of James, first Lord Hamilton. By her he had a son and two daughters :

Sir Robert, his successor.

1. Marjory, married to James Hamilton of Cambuskeith.

2. Margaret, in 1455, married to William, second son (see Note below) of William, second Lord Somerville, and founder of the family of Plain."

from Heraldry of the Hamiltons

Note:

According to
The Scots Peerage, vol. 8, The second son of William, 2nd Lord Somerville was named Thomas and he his wife was Elizabeth de Airth. The had a son, William, so it may be he who was married to Margaret Hamilton. The chronology would support that. William died without issue before 1508 and his brother David succeeded and was 'of Plane'. 2
