John feuded with John Ramsay of Kilgour who killed his brother. In 1484 he was convicted of misappropriating the lands of Kinmonth.

John next married Janet STRACHAN, daughter of Alexander STRACHAN 4th of Carmyllie and Daughter SETON. (Janet STRACHAN was born about 1465.)
