User ID: Z429. General Notes: "Sir William Leslie was esteemed a man of great prudence and valour, and he received the honour of knighthood at the coronation of King James I., 1st April 1424." William married Elizabeth FRASER, daughter of Hugh FRASER younger, 3rd of Lovat, Sheriff of Inverness and Janet FENTON.1 2 (Elizabeth FRASER was born about 1416.) Marriage Notes: "Sir William Leslie married, first, the Honourable Elizabeth Fraser, daughter of Hugh, first Lord Lovat" William had a relationship with Mary MELDRUM, daughter of Thomas MELDRUM of Eden (Iden) and Unknown. (Mary MELDRUM was born about 1443.) Marriage Notes: "Sir William had also a natural son, Patrick, by Marjory, or Mary, daughter of Sir Thomas Meldrum of Fyvie. From this Patrick are descended the Leslies of Iden, the Leslies of Baccarn, and the Leslies of Crichie." William next married Agnes IRVINE, daughter of Sir Alexander IRWYNE 4th of Drum and Elizabeth KEITH.3 4 (Agnes IRVINE was born about 1420.) Marriage Notes: "Sir Alexander had another son, Robert. He got from his father the lands of Whytriggs and Redmyres, and having distinguished himself at the battle of Brechin, under the Earl of Huntly, against the Earl of Crawford, received from Huntly, in 1453, a charter conveying to him the lands of Beltie. From this Irvine of Beltie are descended the Irvines of Germany and the Irvines of Lenturk. It appears that he had a daughter Agnes married to William Leslie of Balquhain, who succeeded to that estate in 1420." William next married Euphemia LINDSAY, daughter of William LINDSAY of Cairney and Unknown, on 5 March 1457.1 (Euphemia LINDSAY was born about 1424.) Marriage Notes: "Sir William Leslie married, thirdly, Euphemia Lindsay, only child and heiress of William Lindsay of Cairney, second son of David, first Earl of Crawford, by Janet, daughter of King Robert II. With Euphemia Lindsay, Sir William Leslie got the lands of Cairney, and by her had issue" |
