General Notes:
"The names McKie, Mackay and Mackie are common, but it seems that they do not appear in the records before 1712.
The first of the name recorded in the register is David Mihie, who had a son Androw baptized on 26th October 1606, in the presence of Andro Stewin, Litster (Dyer). It will be seen from the above list that on 6th May 1571 Margrett Maiky married Thomas Stewin, and it seems therefore very probable that Margrett Maiky belonged to the family of Michie, in which case the name can be traced to the City of Aberdeen as far back as 1570.
The name Gilbert Maike occurs three times. The first occasion was on 13th February 1579, when Gilbert Maike married Janett Strayquhen. Now Andro Michie, who married Jannet Couper on 29th November 1635, and died in 1646, had a daughter Elspett, who was baptized on 26th March 1640 in presence of her godfather Robert Straquhan, and a son Androw, who was baptized on 16th July 1646, in presence of his godfather Andrew Straquhane. So that it also seems quite likely that Gilbert Maike belonged to the family of Michie."
