"Patrick Grant ; pres. by Sir James Grant of Grant Dec. 1739 ; ord. 3rd Dec. 1740; trans, to Nigg (Ross), 25th July 1756. [At the meeting of the Presb., 6th Nov. 1755, the chief reason for his translation was said to be the extensive nature of Duthil parish, where G. 'often exerted himself beyond his strength.' Nigg, a considerably less parish, 'would better fit the natural strength of G. and be the means of promoting the life and health of so valuable a minister, and though many of the people of Nigg had received unfavourable impressions of him, yet the Presb. are persuaded from his known abilities, piety, prudence, and obliging behaviour, that those prejudices will soon wear off''. [Acts of Ass., 1755.]"
