"Hugh Chalmers, born 1648, eldest son of George C., min. of Rhynie; educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen; M.A. (1665); schoolmaster of Keith, 1665-71; ord. (assistant) 6th July 1671; pres. by Charles II. 5th July, and adm. before 8th Oct. 1680; died 5th June 1707. His tombstone at Marnoch says of him that he was 'learned without vanity, pious without ostentation, grave but not morose, and constantly studied truth and peace'. He marr. Elizabeth, daugh. of Alexander Innes of Culquoich, and had issue Alexander, min. of this parish; James, born 1679, died in infancy; William, born 1684, died 1716; James, M.A., Professor of Divinity in Marischal College (q.v.), born 1686; Margaret, born 1688; Elizabeth, born 1691.
