John may have died in the 1690s, as he is not named in the list of the men Alexander Straquhan of Glenkindie in 1699, the "LIST OF THE HERETORS in Strathdon and above Towie who have given Bond to the Commissioners of Justiciary for the peaceable behaviour of their men, and also of the men given up by them", as other Callum men are, or he may have supported the other side. ²
