Son of John Irvine of Kingcausie, who died in 1714, and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of John Ramsay of Clush [sic] (Culsh). Married Margaret, daughter of Thomas Forbes, merchant in Aberdeen, by whom he had five sons and four daughters born between the years 1703 and 1723. His wife died on 30 December 1764 aged 83."
