RACHEL

John Forbes and Rachel Thom married in Strathdon parish Aberdeenshire on 20 November 1760. This husband, John Forbes, may be the sponsor John Forbes who witnessed the baptism of Rachel Strachen. Indeed Rachel Thom may be a sister or cousin of Jean Thom, Rachel Strachen's mother. From the difference in the years of their marriage of the two women Rachel would probably have been an older sister or cousin of Jean's, possibly even an aunt. No baptism has been found for her as yet. It is just possible she was the unnamed 'child Thom' sister of Jean Thom and baptised in 1831 with no name being given at that time for the child. The child may have been in danger of death for example.
