In Jane Mcleod's birth certificate of 1882 both her mother and father's names were recorded. Her father was the informant of the birth before the registrar, James Reid, at Alford on 26 May 1882.

The 1891 census for St Nicholas parish recorded Jane McLeod living with her brother and two half brothers at 26 Charlotte Street Aberdeen. Jane had been born in Alford Aberdeenshire and was aged 8 years. ^{1 2}
