JOHNSTON, Alexander Minister of Alford, Reverend Mr 2

  • Born: 1719 2
  • Marriage (1): SYME, Margaret on 15 December 1751 in Alford parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 1

  General Notes:

"ALEXANDER JOHNSTON, born 1719; educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen; M.A. (1741); called 3rd Sept., and ord. 12th Nov. 1746; died 2nd
March 1778. He marr. 15th Dec. 1751, Margaret (died 16th Sept. 1802), daugh.
of Walter Syme, min. of Tullynessle. -[Tombst.]"

from Fasti Ecclesiae

Note: An anomaly exists in the information from Fasti Ecclesiae. There is a marriage in Alford parish dated 1751 between Peggy Syme and Alexander Johnston, minister. There is also a marriage in Mortlach dated 1754 between James Gordon and Margaret Syme. Both specifically mention that the bride is the daughter of the minister Walter Syme. It would seem therefore that the minister Alexander Johnstone did not live until 1778.

Alexander married Margaret SYME, daughter of Reverend Mr Walter SYME Minister of Tullynessle and Elizabeth GORDON, on 15 December 1751 in Alford parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 (Margaret SYME was born about 1732 and died on 16 September 1802 2.)
