  Research Notes:

THE FIRTH

"ye firth", as recorded in the 1713 baptism record of George Wintoun, likely refers to the area of land in the Ordnance Survey Name Books for Midlothian, designated as Firth, a mansion house, or Firth Mains, a farmhouse, the former in 1747 the residence of Mr D Brown and the latter the property of Mr D Brown and occupied by Mr Peter Good. The mansion house was situated on the South bank of the Esk and surrounded with trees & ornamental ground. The farm house, with suitable offices, was part of a large farm of arable land.
