SMITH, Gilbert ¹

Another name for Gilbert was SMYTH, Gilbert.

   User ID: R261

Noted events in his life were:

• Witness: at baptism of Bessie Mowat, daughter of Alexander Mowat and Margaret Canny, 28 April 1672, Prestonpans parish, East Lothian, Scotland. ²

• Witness: at baptisms of John Mowat, son of Alexander Mowat and Margaret Canny, 1680, Prestonpans parish, East Lothian, Scotland. ¹

Gilbert married Jean CANNY, daughter of James CANNIE and Vyolat SIBBET, before 12 November 1665. (Jean CANNY was born about 1638.)

  Marriage Notes:

No marriage record has been found in the parish registers of the Church of Scotland for this couple.

The 1665 baptism of their son William in Prestonpans parish, however, does not indicate any irregularity of marriage status which would have precluded baptism for their child, so it can be assumed their marriage had taken place before William's baptism.
