In 1623 Alexander Home of St.Leonards, et al, was made a Justice of the Peace for the Baillerie of Lauderdale.[1The Register of the Privy Council of Scotland edited by David Masson, LL.D., Edinburgh, 1896, vol.XIII, 1622-1625,p.342.]

Later in 1628, Alexander Home of St.Leonards, Robert Lauder of that Ilk, Gilbert Lauder of Whitslaid, and John Cranstoun of Thorneydykes were Commissioned under the King's Signet as Justices to hold courts and try three people 'who had long been suspected of witchcraft'. Amongst the signatories to the Commission was [the Earl of] 'Lauderdaill'.[2The Register of the Privy Council of Scotland Second Series, edited by P.Hume Brown, M.A., LL.D., Edinburgh, 1900, vol.2, 1627-1628, p.517.]"

Alexander married Isabel LAUDER, daughter of Robert LAUDER of that Ilk, Justice of the Peace and Anne MACDOUGALL.1 (Isabel LAUDER was born about 1620 and died before 1 November 1683.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Isabel Lauder of that ilk. This lady married Alexander Home, one of the Bailies of Lauder, and died in 1683, leaving four daughters, Margaret, Anna, Christina, and Isabella Home,"

from Family of Lauder

"In 'Inquisitiones Speciales' (Edinburgh 1811), number 309 for Berwickshire, dated 26th August 1658, Isobel Lauder of that Ilk was served heir of Robert Lauder of that Ilk, her father, and was retoured to the superiorities of all his lands, etc., in Lauderdale. These are listed identically in Retours of Service numbers 12 (1585), 98 (1614) and 131 (1623).

It would appear that Isobel Lauder, spouse to Alexander Home, sold the Tower in Lauder to the Rev. William Johnstone.[1Papers on Lauder, by Robert Romanes, 1908.]

On 1st November 1683, Margaret, Anna, Christina and Isobella Home, were retoured as Heirs Portioners of Isobella Lauder - their mother - spouse of Alexander Home, one of the Baillies of Lauder, in the £5 lands in Dalcove [Mertoun parish], recorded in Retours 12 (1585), 98 (1614), 131 (1623) and 309 (1658).[2Inquisitiones Speciales number 414 for Berwickshire.]"
