  • Born: About 1486
  • Marriage (1): ARBUTHNOTT, Janet
  • Died: before 1511(dvp) 1

   User ID: M881.

Alexander married Janet ARBUTHNOTT, daughter of Robert ARBUTHNOTT 12th of that Ilk and Mariota SCRIMGEOUR. (Janet ARBUTHNOTT was born about 1493.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Alexander, eldest son, died vita patris; married Janet, daughter of James Arbuthnott of that Ilk, who survived him ...."

from Scots Peerage (vol 5)

Note:

Janet was more likely the sister of James, since his contract of marriage was dated 1507, and Alexander Falconer died before 1511.
Memories of the Arbuthnots places her as the daughter of Robert Arbuthnot and Mariota Scrymgeour, and so the sister of James Arbuthnot.

A researcher on this subject, Mike Wade, has found evidence for this:

"She is definitely the sister of James Arbuthnott & daughter of Robert Arbuthnott, as demonstrated by entry #205 of the Arbuthnott Inventory, which reads:

'Act of the Lords of Council at the instance of James Arbuthnot of that Ilk and Janet Arbuthnot his sister against George Falconer of Halkerton for the wrongous deferring to have given conjunct insestment to umquhil Alexander Falconer his son and apparent heir and the said Janet Arbuthnot his wife in the 15 pound land of Halkerton lying in the county of Kincardine - 9th December 1512' "

"Janet, married first (before 9th December, 1512) Alexander Falconer, eldest son of George Falconer of Halkerton ...."

from Memories of the Arbuthnots 1 2 3
