"Sir John Auchmouthie of Gosford, was appointed a servant of the bed-chamber to James VI and is so-styled when admitted to Burgess of Edinburgh on 18 September 1614. He firstly acquired the lands of Gosford from Alexander Atcheson of Gosford which were confirmed to him by charter under the Great Seal dated 29 June 1622, followed by those of Dunglass, Thornton and others which he had apprised from William Ruthven of Dunglass, and which were confirmed to him on 29 December 1653. He m. Isabel Seton."
