from Index of Marriages"John Byres, I. of Coates, was succeeded by his eldest son, the brave and gallant Sir John Byres, a devoted Loyalist, who added the estate of Warrestone to his patrimonial inheritance, and seems to have left his family in a prosperous condition. By his wife Isobel, daughter of Sir John Auchmuty of Gosford, he had his son and heir, John Byres, III. of Coates, through whose extravagance, and it is also believed by losses in the ill-managed Darien scheme, by which his Aberdeen kinsman also suffered severely, the estates had to be sold."
