William Stark younger of Auchinstarry was appointed an executor of the will of John Gartshore of that Ilk, in the parish of Lenzie, who died in 1617. The will also appoints William Stark as guardian of John Gartshore's children in the event of their mother's death or remarriage:

"At Gartschoir the xxj day of merche jm vjc and sevintein yeiris. The quhilk day the said Joun nominats makes and confirms Williame Stark of Auchinstarie, Robert Burne in Schirva, Barbara Stark his spous his confirmit executoris. And the said Barbaria onlie and undersall intromitrix with his guids and geir.

And nominates constitutes appoints and ordanes the said Barbara his spous tutrix testimentair during hir wedowheid to William, Robert, Patrick, Thomas and James Gartschoiris his lawfull sones.

And in cais of hir deceis and marriage in that caise now as than, and than as now, nominats and appoyntis the saids William Starke and Robert Barne2 conjunct tutors to his foir namit five sones And tutars to William, Robert, Patrick ,Thomas, James and Jonet Gartschoirs his lawfull bairneis his blissing with his haill frie guids and geir amangst thame equallie to be devydit

In witness thereof their presents writtin be William Flemyng notar in Glasgow the said Joun hes subscryvit the samyne At day year and place foirsaid Befoir the witnesses Malcome Flemying of Woddellie, James Flemying of Oxgange, Johnne Stark brother germane to the said William Starke, and the said William Flemying. Sic Subscribitur Johnne Gartschoir of that Ilk."

Though nominated as executor by Gartshore, whose will showed that his debts exceeded his credit, William Stark renounced that office, though he did agree to be cautioner and surety for Barbara Stark:

"Becawse William Stark of Auchinst[..] ane of the executors nominat be the defunct In testament personally compeired in iudgement Renuncit his office and maid faithe that he had tane nor tyne to intromit with the defuncts guids [...]

The said quhilk day In presens of the commissioners of Glasgow compeirit personallie William Stark of Auchinstaris and of his awin consent actit him selfe his airis and executors cautioner and souertie for Barbara Stark relict and executorix onlie constitue to umquhile Johnne Gartschoir of that Ilk hir spous that the guids and geir contenit in his confermit testament salbe furthcumand to all pairteis haveand enterest as law will."

William married Margaret HAMILTON, daughter of James HAMILTON 3rd of Haggs and Isobel ELPHINSTONE.1 (Margaret HAMILTON was born about 1558.)

William Stark, younger of Auchinstarie, produced a charter whereby James Hammiltoune of Haggis and Alexander Hammiltoune, his son, brother and heir of q. John Hammiltoune, fiar (feoditarii) of Haggis, granted to the said William Stark and Margaret Hammiltoune, his spouse, and l.l. (1) an annualrent of £40, payable furth of the 33 s. 4 d. land, old extent, of Drumgraye, lying in the barony of Munklande and shire of Lanark; and (2) another annualrent of £33 6 s. 8 d., payable furth of the two mills of Langlone and Haggis, lying in the same barony and shire. Charter subscribed at Haggis on 15 November, 1585, in presence of John Hammiltoune of Alderstoune, brother of the granter, Mr. Robert Hammiltoune, son of the granter, Archibald Hegait, son and heir apparent of William Hegait, citizen of Glasgow. Sasine of the annualrent of £40 given by Thomas Oswell, dwelling in Drumgraye, and of the annualrent of £33 6 s. 8d. by Peter Robesoune, dwelling at the mill of Langlone, as bailies in hac parte, to the said William Stark, and to Mr. Robert Hammiltoune, son of James Hammiltoune of Haggis, as attorney and in name of Margaret Hammiltoune. Witnesses: John Maxuel of Sowbar, and the said Peter Robesoune, servitor of the notary, John Steill in Drumgray, James Kent and William Finnaltoune, servitors at the mill of Langlone and Haggis, respectively."
