Barbara married Right Reverend Mr Alexander GORDON Bishop of the Isles and of Galloway, son of John GORDON Master of Huntly, Lord of Badenoch and Margaret STEWART, about 1543.1 2 (Right Reverend Mr Alexander GORDON Bishop of the Isles and of Galloway was born about 1516 and died on 11 November 1575 in Clary House, Penninghame, Wigtownshire, Scotland 1 2.) Marriage Notes: "Alexander (Gordon). He entered the Church, was nominated by the Chapter Archbishop of Glasgow in 1551, but James Beaton was appointed by the Holy See. He was made Bishop of the Isles 26 November 1553, of Galloway 1558, and was titular Archbishop of Athens. He also held the Abbeys of Tongland and Inchaffray and Icolmkill in commendam. He is said to have been the only consecrated Bishop who joined the Lords of the Congregation at the Reformation. He was appointed a Privy Councillor 3 November 1565, and an Extraordinary Senator of the College of Justice on 26th of the same month; afterwards, however, he joined the Queen's party and had much tribulation with the General Assembly in consequence ; ultimately he was obliged to make a public satisfaction to the Assembly in August 1575, and he died on 11 November following. He married Barbara Logie of Ennis, and by her had issue a son George." |
