PARTNER, Unnamed 1

  • Born: About 1570
  • Partnership (1): GORDON, John in Aberdeen

   User ID: P249.

Unnamed had a relationship with someone John GORDON in Aberdeen, son of Right Reverend Dr William GORDON last Pre-Reformation Bishop of Aberdeen and Janet KNOWLES. (John GORDON in Aberdeen was born about 1555.)

  Marriage Notes:

"The cadents of William Gordon, bishop of Aberdeen, fourth son to Alexander 3d Earl of Huntly. This William Gordon Bishop of Aberdeen had two natural Sons, viz. Mr John Gordon who coft some Houses in the Old town of Aberdeen, and Mr Walter Gordon ; the said Mr John Gordon dyed without Succession, his brother Mr Walter succeeded to his Houses and Lands and married and begat a son called Wm Gordon."

from Balbithan MS

"John and George (Gordon) possessed property in Aberdeen .... John Gordon died without issue (see Note below), and he was succeeded by another brother, 'Mr. Walter who married and had a son, William Gordon' (M. S. Pedigree)."

from Records of Aboyne

Note:

Gordons Under Arms lists a son of this John Gordon named Colonel Alexander Gordon, who may have been born outside of marriage, therefore h. If so, his father may still conform to the description of having 'died without issue', usually meaning legitimate issue. John's brother Walter Gordon was his heir, and this tends to confirm the possibility suggested here. 1 2 3
