Margaret married Sir Charles HOWARD 1st Earl of Nottingham, Lord High Admiral of England in September 1603.1 (Sir Charles HOWARD 1st Earl of Nottingham, Lord High Admiral of England was born about 1536 1 and died on 14 December 1624 1.) Marriage Notes: "Margaret (Stewart), who was naturalised in England on the accession of King James. She was married, first, as his second wife, in September 1603, to Charles Howard, Earl of Nottingham, the celebrated admiral. He was then about sixty-seven, and it was said that his marriage with this young lady 'set his wisdom many degrees back in the repute of the world.' He survived the marriage many years, and died 14 December 1624, aged eighty-eight. His widow was married, secondly, to William, Lord Monson of Castlemaine, who, as he was born in 1607, must have been much younger than she was. She died at Covent Garden 4 August 1639,. and was buried at Chelsea. She had issue by both husbands." |
