"William Burnet, perhaps a son of Thomas B. of Sauchen; educated at King's College, Aberdeen; M.A. (19th July 1664) became schoolmaster of Alford; passed trials before the Presb., was recommended, 3rd Feb. 1664, for licence when the bishop was not in the country, and again 2nd April 1668; certified for ordination 16th Nov. 1670; adm. to Kildrummy before 15th March 1671; deprived on refusing to take the Test in 1681; adm. here before 1683; died between 5th and 25th Oct. 1699. He marr. (1) Jean Barclay, and had issue Robert; Marjory (marr. James Anderson, min. of Cluny); Barbara Jean; Anna; Katherine (marr. William Mair, min. of Kincardine O'Neil: (2) Janet Douglas, who survived him. [Aberdeen Poll-Book, i., 193; (G. R. Hornings, 8th Jan. 1705.]"

Thomas Burnett did have a younge son William, but that William is said by The Family of Burnett to have died at a young age. In any case, the dating does not support this minister being a son of Thomas Burnett of Sauchen. 1 2
