"Donald Gorme Mor died, in 1616, without issue, and was succeeded by his nephew Donald Gorme OgMacDonald of Sleat, who was created a Baronet of Nova Scotia, by Charles I, with a special clause of precedency placing him second of that order in Scotland. This Baronetcy is now the premier Baronetcy of Scotland. He adhered to the cause of Charles I, and died in 1643. He had several children by his wife, 'Fair Janet,' second daughter of Lord MacKenzie of Kintail. His eldest son, Sir James MacDonald, second Baronet of Sleat, joined the Marquess of Montrose, in 1645, and when Charles II marched into England, in 1651, he sent a number of the Clan to his assistance. Sir James died in 1678."
