"John is styled 'John, son of Walter,' or 'John, son of Sir Walter,' and in one case his father is alluded to as ' called of Hamilton.' He witnesses various charters between 1365 and 1381. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Alan Stewart of Darnley and Crookston, who was killed at Halidon in 1333."
