"John Mair, born 1718, son of William M., min. of Kincardine O' Neil; educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen: M.A. (1722); licen. by Presb. there 5th Sept. 1733; ord. to Forbes 28th Jan. 1724: pres. by George II. 14th March 1743, but a call given to James McWilliam, afterwards min. of Forbes, was sustained by the Presb., but reversed by the Synod and Assembly which app. M.'s settlement, Called 27th May 1743; trans. and adm. 5th Sept. 1744; elected clerk of Synod 13th April 1773; died 26th Feb. 1777. He marr. 12th July 1748, Elizabeth (died at Aberdeen, 10th April 1807, aged 84), daugh. of Arthur Forbes, min. of Oyne, and had issue Jean, born 11th Dec. 1749), died 9th May 1751; Katherine, born 14th May 1751 (marr.
