  Marriage Notes:

"James Gordon was the 2nd of Sheepbridge, County Down, Ireland. The will of James Gordon II was dated 27 January 1749 and proved 17 November 1753 in the jurisdiction of Newry and Mourne, County Down, Ireland. He gives the lands of Lisduff (about 26 acres) to his wife Sarah for life and then his three sons, James, Samuel and John to have its interest and that of Derryboy and Cloughenramer. His son George is to have a 1/2 acre of moss meadow in Cloughenramer with what he has already been given. To his daughter Anne Templeton he gives £ 1 - 3 - 0 and to his daughters Elinor and Sarah £30 and to live in the house with their mother. Sheepbridge is to go to his son James, provided he comes to live in Ireland. If he does not choose to do so, Sheepbridge is to go to his son Samuel and James is to have another part. James appoints his dear wife Sarah and John Ellis and Ephraim Murdock as executors. The will is witnessed by Thomas and John Carr and Humphrey Humphries. [2], [1]

James, son of James Gordon II, did not elect to return to Ireland from Virginia, and Samuel inherited Sheepbridge. James did give a share of his inheritance to his brother John, perhaps before John came to Virginia.[2] On 17 September 1779 John conveyed to his nephew, George Gordon, eldest son of his brother Samuel Gordon of Sheepbridge, his interests in the Sheepbridge property.
