"The year of our Lord 1688 the 15 of June was born Alexr son of Mr John Gordon of Seaton a protestant and of Mrs Bettie Irvine Catholick husband and wife who was baptized in the protestant manner by Mr John Keith Minister of Old Abd qr the said Mr John Gordon liveth. The same day JRT SP at the desyre of the sd Mrs Bettie and of her Catholick Relations gave the said Child the Cermonies used in the Catholick Church the Godfather was Mr Alexr Irvin of Lairny and the God mother was Margaret Adie wife to Richard Irvine of Cornfeild both of the paroch of St Nicolas of Abd in testimony qrof I have writen and subtt ys as ane authentick copie of qt I did formerly at Abd the 16 of decr 1693"

"A lairstone, which is finely carved with elaborate scrolls and armorial bearings, has the following inscription -

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. Here lye the devot and learned gentilman Mr Richard Irvine of Cairnfield, who died anno 1703, ae 77, 4 IVLI, and his spous Margart Aedie, anno , and at the right the religious gentilman Mr Cristophr Abercrombie, S.I.S., who died anno 1702, ae 55, 7 IVNE.
