  General Notes:

The direct male line of Maitland of Schivas stopped with Sir Patrick Maitland in 1467. He left two daughters, Elizabeth and Janet.

An indirect line is proved by the fact that Robert Maitland of Auchincrieff was included in the entail for Lethington in March 1593(1594).

There is no clear indication from primary sources as yet as to the course of this relationship of the Robert Maitland, mentioned above as included in the entail, and Sir Robert Maitland of Lethington and Thirlestane who died in 1346 at the Battle of Neville's Cross.

This is one possible scenario based on the little that is known, and with a high degree of inference added. ^{1 2}
