"On 9th December 1494, Sir John (Wemyss of Strathardle) was one of the defenders in an action by Janet Monypenny, spouse of the late David Monypenny of Pitmilly, and George Ramsay, now her spouse, against the members of a jury for serving a brieve of terce obtained by Margaret Wemyss, spouse of the late Thomas Monypenny of Pitmilly. It was decided that the jury had erred in serving the brieve, because there were two competing conjunct infeftments of widows over the lands already. [Acta Auditorum, p. 194.]"
