DE HOPPRINGILL, Mariota ¹

Mariota married Sir William BORTHWICK 3rd Lord Borthwick, son of William BORTHWICK 2nd Lord Borthwick and Unknown, after 21 November 1458.¹ (Sir William BORTHWICK 3rd Lord Borthwick was born about 1438 and died in 1503 ¹.)

  Marriage Notes:

"On 21 November 1458 the first Lord obtained a gift under the Great Seal of the marriage of Mariota de Hoppringill of that Ilk, from which it has been reasonably inferred that she became the wife of his son, now under notice."

Note:

Given that Mariota de Hopringill was a minor in 1458, it might be equally reasonably inferred from the surrounding chronology that she became the wife of the grandson, rather than the son, of the first Lord Borthwick. ¹
