Jean married James ABERNETHY 3rd of Mayen, son of John ABERNETHY 2nd of Mayen, Jacobite 1715 and Jean MOIR.1 (James ABERNETHY 3rd of Mayen was baptised on 22 June 1710 in Rothiemay parish, Banffshire, Scotland 4 and died in 1771 in Dunkirk, France 5.)

"1 'James Abernethy quarrelled at an election dinner in Aberdeen with John Leith of Leithhall, and shot him dead in the street. He eflected his escape, but was outlawed and died abroad (at Dunkirk, 1771). Lord Fife obtained a gift of his life-rent of Mayen for the benefit of Jean Duff and her children.'
