"Sir Henry (Mercer), the elder son, married Margaret Douglas of Lochleven, and was killed at Flodden. His son, Laurence, carried on the main line, from which branched off the Mercers of Melgins and Saline, in 1588. Sir James, last of the Adlie line, died in 1671. He was one of his majesty's ordinary gentleman ushers."
