   User ID: F820.

Alexander married Margaret STRACHAN, daughter of Alexander STRACHAN younger, of Thornton and Margaret ROSE, about 1456.1 2 (Margaret STRACHAN was born about 1435.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Alexander Straton of the Knox, eldest son of Alexander Straton of that Ilk and his wife Forbes.

Born: About 1431

Married: - About 1456 Margaret, eldest daughter and coheiress of Alexander Strachan of the Knox and Dullivard.

Died:- About 1504.

Issue:- 1. Alexander Straton of the Keym,

2. Andrew.

3. Katherine, who married David Barclay of Mathers.

It is doubtful whether he ever succeeded to the family property or was ever known as Straton of that Ilk; he and his father died within a year or two of each other. On his marriage with Margaret Strachan in 1456 he received the lands of Petty as her dower but, on the death of his father-in-law, before 1471, he exchanged those lands for those of Knox. For some reason he was unable to give sasine of Petty and he, his grandson and his great-grandson were involved in years of litigation before the Lords of the Council."

from The Stratons of Lauriston

Note:

"3. Katherine" This marriage is not accounted for elsewhere.

"Alexander Straton of Lauriston and The Knox. = Margaret, eldest daughter and coheir of Strachan of Dillivard."

from Book of Strattons

Note:

Dillivard, also Duliewardis and Dullivard, was, in the 15th century, in the possession of The Strachans of Thornton, and various members of the family were so designated. Given the dates of Margaret and her husband, she has been placed here, and since the placing is circumstantial it should be treated with caution.
