"The two earliest dated charters in existence conveying lands to a member of the Urquhart family by name are granted by William, Earl of Ross : one of the lands of Inchrory, 30th September 1338, and the second, dated 6th January 1349, of the lands of Brae in Cromarty - both in favour of Adam de Urquhart. (There is also a much later precept by John, Earl of Ross, 22nd February 1471, for infeffing William Urquhart, grandson of Adam, in the Burgh of Cromarty. All these records are among the writs of the estates of Cromarty, and are printed by Sir William Fraser."

Adam married Brigida FLEMING, daughter of Sir Patrick FLEMING of Biggar and Joan FRASER co-heiress of Oliver Castle.¹ (Brigida FLEMING was born about 1325.)
